Depression Hurts – Period

The pain of depression cannot always be seen. In fact when a person is depressed, they can hide it so well that sometimes no one, not even their closest companion realizes that they are depressed.
When depression hurts , it can get really bad. It can extend to so many other people, and affect their lives forever. Take for instance, a very common story today. Let’s call him Bill.
Bill was a highly successful man. He has a good career, financially stable, owned his own house and car, and had a beautiful girlfriend. Life was amazing for him until the girl left him. For whatever reasons for the break-up, Bill felt broken. Depression hurts, and in Bill’s case, it led to him committing suicide soon after. This is not as extreme as it is common. So many people have found it hard to deal with depression. They got lost in their own confusion, and could not find a way out.
Instead of judging people who get depressed, we should try to help them by recognizing the signs of depression. If we catch it early, we can prevent major disaster from happening, and the stories like that of Bill will decrease and happen less often.
Signs Of Depression
Look for signs of sleeping disorder, changes in the eating patterns from overeating all of a sudden to not eating at all. Other signs are excessive drinking, partying, fatigue, a distracted mind, inability to focus and concentrate, contrived laughter, fake smile, and no interest in anything, including those things they used to love doing. It may not be depression, but it is a change that is not positive, so talking about it may help reverse the process. Depression does not start as depression. It can just be sadness that grew out of proportion. This being so, knowing the signs can changes lives – but for the better.
Types of Depression
When you hear one of your friends claim that he or she is depressed, don’t scoff at it. Rather, hear out the story and prepare a string of good words, to pacify the surge of emotions. The deed may be tiresome, but for all you know, you might be saving someone’s sanity by providing the right form of validation, otherwise your buddy might fall under the different types of depression. Mind you, they are anything but pleasant.
Dysthymia
Dysthymia is the inclination towards a negative outlook, prompted by dissatisfaction or a chain of bad events. It gradually controls one’s reactions, making the afflicted question things seem to be too good to be true, of course in a rather irrational way. A trip to the psychiatrist is still not necessary at this stage. It can be cured by the show of support by friends and loved ones, provided that they are not jaded.
Unipolar Depression
Upon entering this stage of depression, things can only get worse, unless the individual develops the longing for positive reinforcement, which is anything but easy. The longer the person engages heavy emotional episodes; his or her inclination towards depression grows stronger. Eventually, the emotional state will overpower rational thoughts and positive reactions, leaving only anxiety and even more depression as the channels.
Manic Depressiveness
Any form of dependency is not healthy, and in the case of depression, it could be deadly. Manic depression entraps its victims in a shell of negative reaction, leaving everything else outside. Gradually, the thoughts and reactions grow more drastic, until it leads to psychotic depression – a state wherein a person is controlled only heavy depression, which is a precursor to suicide or murder and a handful of diseases.
One can start dealing with depression of this kind by taking a manic depression test. Professional help is the only recourse at this point, since a change not only in lifestyle, but also in one’s set of personal beliefs is necessary.
