God – The Secret Law of Attraction And The Bible?

Posted on | June 25, 2010 | 5 Comments

I ran across this question recently:

I have questions about how come “The Secret” is so easy for us to understand how to get what we want in life, but for God loves us so much, why he didn’t show this in Bible to make our life easier?

If he did mention about Law of Attraction, would you please tell me which verses?

This question is only for the God believers who think “The Secret” has been working for them. Please don’t answer if you don’t know what “The Secret” is.

- Ken

Dear Ken:

First of all,  I am a Christian.  So, let’s get that out of the way.  I am also a LOA (Law of Attraction) practitioner.  God did tell us about the Law of Attraction in the Bible – we just didn’t listen.

The basis of the law of attraction, in The Secret,  is the concept of:

ASK – BELIEVE – RECEIVE

While many faiths echo the essential tenets of this formula, the Jesus, The Christ makes it clear in Mark 11:24:

Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.

- Mark 11:24 (NIV)

Many of the best Bible Believing Christians have not dared to ever step out, in faith, and take the Christ at His word.  They mysteriously have the faith to believe that Jesus can grant them eternal life; but, their finances…..well that is another thing entirely.  NO! NO! NO!

The Secret Law Of Attraction Answers Many Theological Questions

Many Christians find themselves drawn to the LOA because (1) it answers a lot of questions; and, (2) confirms their sneaking suspicions about the nature of God.  Let’s explore both of these concepts further:

Christians find themselves plagued with such questions as: (1) why do “wicked” people prosper and “righteous” people suffer? (2) why do I tithe and live “hand to mouth” while the operator of the strip club down the street lives in financial abundance?

The simplest answer to these questions is derived by the principles of the law of attraction.  The answer is:

BECAUSE THEY BELIEVE THEY CAN !!!

The “wicked” strip club owner walks in financial abundance because he believes that he can do so.   While the Christian is plagued with such self sabotaging beliefs as: (1) I have not been “good” enough; (2) I did not tithe enough; (3) money is evil; or, (4) I do not “need” more than those around me.

God created this world in such a way that it gives (or fails to give) whatever you believe or believe that you cannot have).

The Secret Law Of Attraction And World Of Warcraft

Fellow Christians, money is a medium of exchange that is provided for our use to fulfill our life purpose, our hopes and dreams on this earth.

For example, in World of Warcraft, people (represented as avatars) earn money to buy weapons, “spells” and items to make their gaming experience more fun and fulfilling.   The creators of the game want money to be relatively easy to come by so that the players can continue to evolve their avatar and make the game and community more and more interesting and fun for all.

It works the same way in life.

God Is The Programmer And We Are Avatars In The Game Of Life

God is the programmer of our reality.

Wayne Dyer, and others, teach that we are not physical beings having a spiritual experience; but, spiritual beings having a physical experience.  Indeed, we are spirits, walking through life, in avatar form, with the purpose of enjoying the game of life.

Like World of Warcraft, we need money in our game in order to enjoy it. God created a world where money is relatively easy to come by.   You can find this clause in the rulebook (The Bible) in the gospel of Mark 11:24.  Money is easy to obtain because it helps us to fulfill our purpose in life and better enjoy the game.

Seek Your Bliss At Any Cost

After all, the musician needs lessons and an instrument.  The aviator needs access to a plane.  The lawyer needs money for training.  The doctor needs money for training and equipment.  The nun needs money to care for the poor in India.

Mother Theresa, whose life purpose and sense of joy came from helping the poor in the slums of Calcutta needed money.  But, she never “earned” a dime of it.  She simply prayed:  Ask – Believe – Receive and it was provided to her.

Not everyone derives a sense of purpose or joy from living in poverty in the slums of India.  Every Christian derives a sense of joy from being or doing something.  There is no shame in this.  God gave you those desires to motivate you to seek your bliss.

Sometime, the search comes with a financial cost.  But, God provides the money to cover the cost; and, as a result, the Christian is able to make a difference in their lives, the lives of their family, their friends, their community and…..our world.

    I know “the secret.”
    However, it is irrelevant.
The Bible mentions all we need to know to live in such a way to get to Heaven. It does not report how to grow tall, get rich, or have lots of children.

in may be true that opposites attract but that is the way of the world not the way of God. with God like attracts like or birds of a feather flock together. the Lord said when it comes to marriage not to be unequally yoked but many do because the wrong thing is more attractive than the right thing. lucifer was a beautiful angel but Christ, it is written has no beauty in which to be desired. That is why the big, beautiful churches preaching false doctrine draw more members than the humble, small less appealing church that more times than not is preaching truth. the church is likened to a woman and just as in noahs day the sons of God joined to the wrong women because they were pretty so they spiritually do the same thing today. they follow and join up with the beautiful women/churches that christ called the the great whore(roman catholicism), the mother of harlots(protestantism) and the true sons of God will not have anything to do with them. the true sons obey his commandment to come out of her my people, be not a partaker of her sins and plagues. many more are the children of the harlot than she who hath an husband. they claim to have 2 billion children/converts combined. the protestant churches have joined with roman catholicism today in what is called, the world council of ecumenical churches established in 1948. thus they have become one flesh. it doesn’t matter which denomiantion you belong to today because it is all joined to roman catholicism and the pope and it’s all going to burn and anyone who joins up with them. thus it is fulfilled that the chaff is bound together for the burning. they are definitely not the pure wheat seed that gets harvested

the secret is a well made movie but its not really up to par.the bible does teach us to focus on God and good things for a reason.Faith in a sense is the law of attraction.faith the size of a mustard seed can move a mountain.the problem with the secret is it focuses on some selfish things and seems to be just trying make money.any Taoist, monk, kabbalist,or true priest already has known of this for a long time. “any man that lust after a woman in his mind has already committed adultery with her”is one example of the negative part of the law of attraction.

There’s support for the Law of Attraction all over the Bible.

These verses are from Matthew, the part known as the Sermon on the Mount.

Matthew 7:16 “You will know them by their fruits.”
Use this verse to remember how to discern if another person is sharing information that can be valuable to you. For example, would you follow a person who is broke but they want to teach you about financial success? Their fruits (being broke) tell you that the information is no good. Law of Attraction (the modern explanation talked about in The Secret and in other popular philosophy today) says that as you think, you receive. In other words, your thoughts are like a tree that produces fruit.

Matthew 7:8 “For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.”
This concept is raised a few times in the Sermon on the Mount. Look also at Matthew 21:22. I’ve never seen anything in the Bible that says “ask, and if God deems you worthy you might get it, but don’t hold your breath.” The Bible is full of stories of overcoming (Job), of living badly and succeeding anyway (the prodigal son), and of believing and achieving completely with God’s help (Abraham).

    Matthew 18:2-6
” 2He called a little child and had him stand among them. 3And he said: “I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. 4Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

5″And whoever welcomes a little child like this in my name welcomes me. 6But if anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a large millstone hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.”

This part is about belief. Remember being a child at your birthday, or before a special event? I remember a trip to the circus when I was 6 years old. I learned about the trip a month before we went – I was beside myself I was so excited.

If you can remember that kind of excitement – before you got your first bike, or being so excited about seeing a friend the next day – then you can tap into the power inside of the Law of Attraction (The Secret).

There’s nothing wrong or bad about the Law of Attraction, or The Secret. Take the message and create the right life for you. If cars and money aren’t your thing, then create a way of doing service for humanity. What you think of and believe you will create.

Researchers say you’ll think about 60,000 thoughts in a day. Why not consciously decide to think about things you like and let good things manifest in your life as a result? God loves you – how could it be any other way?

Law of Attraction is definitely aligned with Christianity. I myself am a Roman Catholic and I sincerely believe that the energy in Law of Attraction is Jesus Christ.

I don’t know which verse it is in the Holy Bible but it’s in the Holy Bible. I believe God shows us implicitly in the Holy Bible.

Law of Attraction teaches us to be grateful. In the Holy Bible we’re also taught to be grateful.

Law of Attraction teaches us to ask, believe and receive. Isn’t it the same like we are taught in the Holy Bible?

Here’s what I think of Law of Attraction:
Ask ==> pray to God and ask for His blessing
Believe ==> our faith to Him that he’ll give us His blessing
Receive ==> He grants us with His blessing
