Kundalini Awakening: Controversy Or Consciousness
Posted on | September 18, 2009 | 1 Comment
Those who are seeking a spiritual awakening or enlightenment, are familiar with the term “kundalini awakening.” It is a term for a spiritual progress toward a new level of consciousness that affects the body, mind, energy and spirit.
The word itself originates in the Eastern spiritual traditions and is Sanskrit for :coiled up.” This refers to energy that appears to be coiled up at the base of the spine much like a spring or snake waiting to awaken.
We will take a brief look at the concept and its contribution to spiritual awakening.
Kundalini: A Controversy Amongst Light Seekers
A kundalini awakening can be empowering or destabilizing on a physical, mental and spiritual level.
This can lead to a feeling of being overwhelmed and frightening. Some people respond to a kundalini awakening with empowerment, purpose and integrity while others feel a sense of debilitation as a result of the experience.
What is Kundalini Awakening?
“Kundalini” is an energy associated with empowerment and a sense of spiritual achievement. When one experiences a kundalini awakening, energy rises from the root chakra (in the genital area) up through the other energy centers of the body. As a result, the person’s energy field is transformed.
While some people experience the kundalini energy rise over a long period of time after years of study and spiritual work, others experience a spontaneous awakening and without any apparent logic. A kundalini awakening is a sudden, intense spiritual experience.
If you have to ask whether you have experienced a kundalini awakening, you have not experienced it.
What Does A Kundalini Awakening Feel Like?
The experience can best be described as overwhelming and disturbing.
However, only someone who has experienced it can give you an idea of what a Kundalini awakening is like. But, at the same time, the experience is different from person to person.
The range of emotions experienced during a kundalini awakening range across the broad spectrum of available human emotions. The person may experience everything from lust, love, fear, anger, anxiety, depression, euphoria and a gamut of other emotions.
These feelings are usually intense and feel quite different from what the person has experienced before.
Help For Achieving A Kundalini Awakening
If you are contemplating getting the help of a guru or other self help expert to coax or force you into experiencing a kundalini awakening, do not do so. Forcing this type of spiritual awakening is usually harmful and rarely successful.
However, if you wish to work toward a spiritual awakening using certain spiritual principles and guidance to help you work with the process instead of against it. Here are some of the tools you can consider:
- meditation
- yoga or kundalini yoga
- learning about the experience of others who have been through a similar process
- reading the words of gurus and spiritual guides
- listening to music
- energy work or reiki from a skilled practitioner familiar with kundalini energy
- energy psychology
- chakra clearing or emotional release
- chakra visualizations through the third eye chakra
Reiki, chakra clearing, and other hands-on healing approaches ease the flow of kundalini energy and help to shift some of the emotional and energetic blockages that cause discomfort. However, they may temporarily intensify negative symptoms and feelings.
Speak with the practitioner beforehand to ensure that he is non-judgmental and comfortable with kundalini energy. Also, avoid spiritual seekers who are skeptical or critical of the concept of kundalini awakening. Even if they are otherwise knowledgeable, their opinions will affect the work they do.
You have to feel comfort and support from the healer or practitioner you choose at this time.
Do not be afraid to move toward kundalini awakening. If guided and assisted properly, it can be a beautiful and empowering experience.

anyone who wants to have a kundalini experience should read the horror stories that are possible. It’s like being in a dream/nightmare state and being completely cognitive and coherent. I would not advise anyone to endure the smell of perfume, demons scratching the walls, the holy spirit speaking to you through others without their knowing and just out and out terror as you venture into places you do not belong. I had this phenomena happen to me after using binaural beats to open mind and it’s the shits let me tell you. That shit happened to me three years ago and I am just now coming out of the quigong psychosis hell it has put me through. I strongly urge against it…
