In Part One of this series, I examined the factors to consider in weighing the value of a law of attraction forum.

Forums, law of attraction forums and others generally, are only as good as the weakest link.  Software, moderation and rules of conduct are all important, but the most value asset for any forum is its members.

Do a search of the terms, message board or forum and see the number of results.  The web is “crawling” with message boards, discussion boards and forums, law of attraction and otherwise.

These boards range from very good to not worth the effort.

What can you do to make sure that you are part of the solution and not the cause of the problem?

Read And Research Before You Post

Sometimes this is easier said than done as you might have to sign up before you read the posts.  That is okay.  Just be sure to read up and get familiar with the membership before making your first post.

Read all rules, sticky posts and older threads before you try to contribute.  Get a feel for the conversations that are currently in progress.

You will quickly earn a reputation as lazy or annoying if you try to start a new thread that already covers a topic that has already been hashed and rehashed.

Do a quick search and read anything that has already been posted.  Then, if you have additional questions, make a post and refer to the previous posts.  Older members will understand that you have done the research and will usually be glad to clarify any points that were previously made.

Keep Off Topic Posts To A Minimum

Law of attraction forums should discuss the law of attraction.

Most message boards have a central topic or focus. Law of attraction forums are no different.  Stick to the topic unless you have a compelling reason to make and off topic post.  When you decide to do so, put something like “off topic” in the title so that others will be forewarned before posting.

However, over time, you will become friends with other members of the forum.  To the extent that your subgroup has a similar off topic interest, then make a post.  Again, identify the post as “off topic” or “OT.”

Humility Goes A Long Way

Whatever the topic, be humble and back up your opinions with solid reasoning.  Other members will have differing opinions.

Be careful.  There is no room for EGO in a forum.  Rest assured that someone else will know more about a topic than you do.  Be gracious and agree to disagree if you have to.  Do not make personal attacks or let your emotions take control.

Back Up Your Opinion With Links and References

Provide links to sites, or other references, where you obtained your information.

Know that other members will check those references to verify your information or simply because they want to read more about a topic.

And, for God sakes, avoid the use of the eternal “they.”

“They” are not a reference.

“They” are an imaginary group of oracles that live in an ivory tower in some other dimension.

Avoid “they” as if your forum career depends on it…..

Because it does.

Do Not Flame Other Members, Even If They Flame You

Do not deliberately offend other members.  You can do this more often by an irreverent tone behind your post.

Do not deliberately post content that will likely devolve into a name calling contest.

Don’t join a forum about something you’re opposed to, just for the sake of arguing or stirring up trouble.   This is called flaming and it will get you banned.

Your Profile Is There For A Reason

Fill out your profile so that other members get to know you, your background and the source of your authority, if any.

But, do not share personal information such as your last name, location, or birth date.
