Law Of Attraction And Limiting Beliefs: It’s All In Your Head

Posted on | September 12, 2009 | No Comments

Even though I have been a law of attraction practitioner since late 2006, in some ways it still feels like I am a beginner.

I mean, I know it works.

After all, there have been just too many synchronicities in my life since I began consciously trying to manifest my reality.

The problem has been that, with a few exceptions, I have been able to manifest small things, but not the really big things that I need to make dramatic leaps forward.

I can always find a great parking place, an occasional free meal and even money.

Occasionally, I have been able to manifest large amounts of money.  It always comes just in time to cover a specific need.  But, much like the Jews wandering in the wilderness, I never seem to be able to store any “manna” for tomorrow.

One thing that I have learned about the law of attraction is that everyone has their own unique way of manifesting reality.  I have also come to believe that you can manifest only what you believe is possible and what you believe that you deserve.

Anything attempt that is way out past those self imposed boundaries is going to create worry, negative energy.  Well, we all know what that means, don’t we?  No success.

Traditional Goal Setting Versus The Law Of Attraction

With traditional goal setting, conventional wisdom says that we should (1) decide what we want, (2) set a specific goal to be (3) completed by a specific date.

law of attractionWe then begin to work toward the completion of the goal.

If we succeed, then we succeed.  If we fail, oh well, I guess it was not meant to be.

Depending on your mindset, this method of setting goals may not work as well for the law of attraction.  If you are an eternal optimist, then setting goals with a specific time limit can keep you focused and your intentions clear.

However, if you are a pessimist by nature (as I am) then setting specific goal with a specific time limit can actually hurt your efforts at conscious creation.  If the time limit becomes a “deadline” then you are going to feel uncomfortable.

The journey towards manifestation becomes a “race against the clock.”

It is when hopes become fears that the seed you planted in the soil of the universe begins to wither and die.  The reason you are feeling nervous about the date is that you don’t believe it will happen by then or you feel that you do not deserve for it to happen.

….And this is totally understandable.  So, do not beat yourself up.

Because the key is to change your thoughts and beliefs, not condemn them.

Words, Thoughts And Feelings – Good Or Bad

Remember, with respect to the law of attraction, it is not the words you use, or the thoughts you have.  It is how you feel about those words and those thoughts.

If you are feeling good about what you say and feel, then the law of attraction begins to accelerate toward the goal of manifesting your desired reality.  If you feel bad about your thoughts and words, then those feelings poison your conscious creation efforts.

If you attempt to manifest a reality that is too far beyond your present belief system, you will naturally feel bad about it.  Let’s look at the two main reasons why:

You do not believe that it is possible.

If you travel deep within the forests of the Congo and find a people that have never been exposed to the concept of a telephone or an airplane, they will not be able to “manifest” air travel or communication over long distance.  I

It just simply is not within their reality.

If I tell you to manifest a million dollars and you have lived in poverty all of your life, you will not be able to manifest that large sum because it is simply beyond your reality.  Incidentally, I believe this is why so many “religious people” continue to live in poverty even though they are taught the principles of reaping and sowing by their various religions.  They are taught that it is possible for them because they “do not deserve it.”

You do not believe that you deserve it.

If your parents, religion or school taught you that “wealth was difficult to obtain” you may very well conclude that you only “should” have the level of prosperity that you “deserve.”

Maybe you do not deserve prosperity because you are a “sinner” or because you do not have enough “education.”  Maybe you have not “paid your dues” or you are not “good enough.”

If any of these apply to you, you probably have a fear of success and believe that you do not deserve the level of prosperity that you seek.

Between the indoctrination that you received at home, in church, at school and through the media, it is no wonder that you do not feel that you deserve to live in prosperity.

Overcoming Obstacles To The Law Of Attraction

If you are out of physical shape, you cannot tell yourself “get in better shape” and expect to run a marathon or lift heavy weights.  Instead, you must start with a base line and push yourself just beyond your established limits, day after day.  Eventually, you will be able to bench press 300 lbs or run a marathon.

loa2It is the same way with the law of attraction.  As far as your own beliefs, you have to strengthen them over a period of time and with various exercises.

Here are a few that I have used.

Start Small And Build Up. Establish a baseline for your law of attraction beliefs and use those small successes to build larger ones.  I started by manifesting great parking places.  Now, I always get a great parking place because I expect it.  I used that small victory to build larger ones.  As I keep pushing just beyond my previous belief system, I have been able to manifest more and more extensive and elaborate realities.

Associate With Different People. If you go to a church that preaches that poverty is noble, then find another church.  If you associate with a group of negative pessimists, find a group of positive optimists.  Social studies have shown that you rise or fall along with the people with whom you associate.  If you associate with positive, wealthy and successful people, you will become positive, wealthy and successful.  And, of course, the opposite is equally true.

Get Used To The Idea Of Having Money. How much money is a lot of money? The concept of “a lot of money” is a figment of the imagination.  I have people who would argue that a $20 bill is a fortune; while, others do not give a second thought to gambling $500 per hand on blackjack.  I was taught to figure out what is a “lot of money” to you and carry that amount around with you, even if you have to borrow it to do so.  Having that amount of money constantly in your possession removes the apprehension.  Then, it is time to add a little to it.  Take it out, handle it, and take physical ownership of it from time to time.  If you feel prosperous, then you will be prosperous.

Use Your Imagination To Practice Having Abundance.  It is with the imagination that we communicate with our spirit.  I am fascinated by massive online role playing games.  Through the internet, millions of people live a second live in an imaginary world online.  You can build an imaginary world in your mind as well.  In this world you can practice possessing and enjoying the things you desire.  The act of doing this exercise not only makes you feel good, it gets your subconscious used to the idea of living in abundance.

Your Beliefs Can Sabotage Your Conscious Creation Efforts

Even if those all to common beliefs are currently, getting in the way of your conscious creation efforts, continue to push on.  Even if you expect failure, continue to push on.

Even though your mind distinguishes between a quarter and a dollar, the universe does not.  As gravity holds all objects against the Earth, regardless of mass, God creates all things, big and small, from the energy that permeates the universe.

All abundance comes from you.  From the most insignificant quarter to a $300,000 house, it comes from you.  Use the tips and techniques discussed here to expand your horizons.  If you increase your ability to believe, you increase your ability to receive.

It’s all in your head.
