Marriage Counseling Questions Before the Wedding Date

There are millions of couples that will not even consider marriage for one reason or another. For the ones that do, it must be something that is thought out very carefully.
One of the roles of a marriage counselor is to get a future married couple to think about some major issues that could cause problems in their relationship in the future. Pre-marriage counseling will allow the couple to make an informed decision regarding one of the most important commitments of their lives.
How many children are desired by each spouse?
Many couples struggle when it comes to how many children they should have. If a career is important to the woman, it may be difficult for the man to convince the woman to have two or more children. The male might feel that the woman is being selfish because she may only want one child. The man might not want any children at all if he feels it is going to interfere with his climb up the corporate ladder. If a large family is what is desired by the female, the man that does not want children will discover that numerous quarrels and arguments will take place regarding this matter.
What are the career goals of each partner?
The career choices of the couple should not conflict with one another. For example, a man that is a political leader may have problems if his partner is a dancer at a strip club. It may be that one person that does not even want to work. This will create a situation that may eventually cause stress and strife between the two individuals. A thorough discussion that will detail the short term and long term goals is so important.
When one person does not seem to have a positive view regarding employment, this should raise a red flag.
One of the best things that each couple should do prior to even considering marriage would be to take the time to talk about their desires, dreams, goals and accomplishments.
