Mindfulness with Jon Kabat-Zinn

Posted on | May 18, 2010 | 26 Comments

Mindfulness is the key to avoiding self sabotage and self defeating thoughts.  So much of our life is spent on autopilot that we eat, drink and think – without thinking.

It is this failure to live life mindfully that causes self defeating thoughts, self sabotage overeating and other behaviors that plague our efforts to build the life we desire.

Jon Kabat-Zinn leads a session on Mindfulness at Google.

@hceggeberth a lot of words, a lot of talking “about” meditation, but no depth.
    Just old stuff.

Wherever You Go There You Are on disc, read by the author, Jon Kabat-Zinn is by far, my favorite book. Full Catastrophe Living is wonderful too.

@arzoyan I know as well as you that I live in the belly of a beast that steals my time and my labour and in return tries to palm me off with a false promise of a tomorrow full of stuff I don’t need and which will never sate me.

But ideologues have yet to find a way of combating this lie in a way which does not lead to disaffection, chaos or bloodshed. I can’t put my faith in the promises of dogmatists, however well meaning, because I may well die TODAY.

I can’t wait for your future to begin.

@arzoyan Maybe, maybe not. But what do you suggest that I – or anyone else – do TODAY to make our lives more tolerable? You suggest nothing, but Jon has.

People have been busy promulgating ideas about the “dark forces” that take our humanity away from us for the last three centuries, but – so far at least – none of those people have add anything to the sum total of human happiness. Jon has.

He’s shown me how I can do that for myself, and I’m the most cynical, iconoclastic person I know.
