I was perusing Steve Pavlina’s blog this morning and could not resist reading his post about Overcoming Cheapness.

Just like Steve, I did not have a lot of money during certain key periods of my life.

I did things on the cheap.

Over time, I learned that, oftentimes, items that were more expensive were of a significantly higher quality than the cheap ones.

So, how have I changed my lifestyle?

  • Even though I still eat at the occasional “greasy spoon”, I have found that nice restaurants serve better food and I enjoy it more.
  • I savor the occasional glass of MacAllan instead of Highland Mist.
  • I wear a Rolex that will last a life time instead of buying a new Timex every year.
  • I carry a Sebenza instead of a Case.
  • I fly my airplane instead of driving.
  • I purchase several quality suits every few years from a quality men’s store instead of off the rack suits at a discount store.
  • When I go on a vacation, I stay at a nice hotel instead of a discount chain.

Many of you might argue that this is wasteful spending.  You might argue that I should opt for the discount items and spend the rest on charity.   But, I would respond that I now have the means to live abundantly and STILL afford to give to charity.

Steve Pavlina Advises That You Start Small

In order to gradually raise your standard of living, Steve advises that you start small:

  1. Make an occasional purchase that “cause you to stretch a little.”
  2. Order what you really want, regardless of price.  Good food taste better.
  3. At the grocery store, buy what you want, even if you have to buy less.

I would add an exercise that I used with success.  Think about whatever you consider to be a large mount of money (for me it was as little as $100).  Now, go withdraw that amount of money (or save it if you have to) in cash and carry it around with you.   If you spend a part of it, replenish it.  Pretty soon, it will no longer feel like a lot of money.

Repeat the exercise.  I have found that you can easily manifest an amount of money up to what you consider to be within your reach.  This exercise expands your belief system to include larger and larger amounts of money.

Steve Says Have Appreciation And Gratitude

As you begin to get what you want, receive it, accept it and appreciate it with gratitude.  Learn to expect it, and when you get it, enjoy it fully.

Tell yourself to that you can have whatever you desire if you identify and claim it.

Live in harmony with abundance.

Take some time today to go over to Steve Pavlina’s blog – Overcoming Cheapness.

It is well worth your time.
